One thing I see all the time is onboarding tasks assigned to excited customers, that aren’t optimized to drive action.

And when onboarding tasks aren’t designed to drive action it’s all too easy for customers to get stuck and lose their excitement for your product:

There are 5 common reasons tasks cause customers to get stuck:

  • It’s not clear WHO should do the task
  • There’s no clear indication WHEN a task should be done
  • No of clarity around WHY this task is important
  • Confusion around HOW to complete the task
  • No clear path to do WHAT needs to be done

Once you’re past the big 5, each task can be further improved by looking at the details:

  • Is our copy action-oriented?
  • Are we handling common objections?
  • Have we included an escape hatch for edge cases?

But I know trying to optimize every single task in your onboarding plan is a ton of work.

So… I’m putting together a collection of pre-written onboarding task examples for you to swipe and modify for your own needs.

Each task has a screenshot with a real example and copy written to drive action that you can copy + paste into your own plan.
